This year the Sandy Lake Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Museum is holding their Annual Membership Supper on March 5, 2017 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Sandy Lake Rec Centre.
The membership supper is held to thank everyone who is a member of the museum with a traditional Ukrainian Supper and to recruit new members. The supper consists of foods from the local Ukrainian menu: perohy (perogies), cabbage rolls, kasha (buckwheat), kobassa (sausage), borshch and cabbage soup and a few other extras like salad, buns and ice cream with fruit toppings for dessert.
All the food is made by volunteers of the museum in appropriate cooking facilities. The cooking of most of these traditional Ukrainian foods is done by women with expertise in creating the foods of their culture. Their knowledge in this can definitely be found in the flavours of the dishes.
The Museum has held this supper for many years as a kind of thank you to the residents of the village and surrounding area for helping the organization to stay vital in the community. The support of the many members and helpful volunteers for museum events is greatly appreciated.
Because of this support, the Museum has been able to be instrumental in promoting itself and the village of Sandy Lake in different parts of the province.
Cost of the supper is $5/person for museum members and $12/person for non-members. You can sign up as a member at the door.
